I'm sure very few people are surprised by the outcome of the Karr fiasco. There are probably dozens of bloggers who have commented on this much more eloquently than I ever could, but for what it's worth, I hope someone beats his ass all the way to Sonoma County, California. And then some.

That is all.

Visibly Lacking That Enriched Feeling

Sophie, my mom, and I went to Brookside Gardens in Wheaton (Maryland) today. The main draw was the Wings of Fancy live butterfly exhibit, but they also have acres of gardens, sculptures, ponds, and gazebos. As expected, it was all very lovely. I could've spent more time strolling the gardens (roses! lavender! water lilies!), but unfortunately that idea was vetoed by a certain someone who has no qualms about splatting herself flat on the ground and shrieking her dissenting opinion.

Here's what today sounded like:

"It's hot.

"I want lunch.

"It's hooooooot!

"When are we going to get lunch?

"I DON'T EVEN LIKE BUTTERFLIES!

"Mo-o-o-om! You said we were going to a restaurant for lunch! Where is the restaurant?!

"I want something to drink. Mom! I want something to drink right now!

"It's too hot and I'm tiiiiiired! Carry me!

"I want to leave RIGHT NOW. I HATE it here.

"I'm hoooooooot."

And here's what today looked like:

Yep, that would be a very pissed-off preschooler who was not feeling the joy of butterflies, and by the way, did I mention that she was hooooooooot?

Right about now, my parents are thinking about all the complaining I did as a kid during our little family outings, and laughing until they pee themselves.

Company Y Update

A while back, I mentioned that The Asshats Formerly Known as My Employers had declared financial difficulties sometime after I quit the job and were taking their sweet time paying me for my final month of employment. Since my last somewhat vague post on the subject, we also discovered that several of the IRA deferrals deducted from my 2006 paychecks didn't quite make it from the employer's bank account into my IRA account. I'm pleased to report that I've finally received all of the monies owed - with interest, even! - and it only took a few well-placed comments about IRS audits to make that happen.

My new job, on the other hand, continues to be delightful. And that's not just the steady paycheck talking.

Y'all, I was just alerted that MySpace is spamming people using a spoof of my email address. If you have received a pro-MySpace email that appears to be from me, I cannot express strongly enough how very, very inauthentic it is. Delete that crap immediately. In fact, just forget that you've ever heard of MySpace.

Spammer bastards.

A Little Local Flavor

When we first moved to Southern Maryland, it was visibly obvious that folks down here are a little different. I don't even need to qualify that statement by comparing them to some other population in Maryland. They're a wee bit off from the norm in the Northern part of the county, and that gap widens the further South into the county you go. On average, every fourth or fifth person you're likely to see here looks like an extra from the set of The Dukes of Hazzard.

Over time, the people have started to seem less odd to me. Could be the influx of new yuppified residents JUST LIKE US diluting the country folk population, or could be acclamation. (I'm guessing it's more of the latter, which means I'm on my way to becoming one of them. AAAAA!) Every so often, though, I'll see something that reminds that we're not in Columbia [Maryland] anymore.

This week at the grocery store, I saw a woman flossing her teeth with her tongue. It wasn't nearly as difficult a feat as it sounds, seeing as how she was conveniently missing every other tooth.

Yup, a little different down here.
