A number of cities across the United States are hosting a Dining Out for Life event TODAY, April 27th. Participating restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit agencies that fight AIDS. Go to the website, click on the map to find out if your city is participating, and then check out the list of restaurants. Hey Baltimore: Vaccaro's is on the list!

Word
Sophie: My daddy says "damn it", so I'm gonna say "damn it", too! Grammom: You know, you really shouldn't say it at all. You can think of something else to say. But if you must say it, you need to wait until you're 18. Sophie: Oh, damn it.

It's Not Often That I Ask the Internets for Advice...
But when I do, it's usually about my hair. Have you seen it lately? Well no, you probably haven't, because I've been too embarrassed to publicly post pictures. People, the hair is not in a good way. I let it go too many months between cuts and what used to be long layers is now somewhere between "librarian of yore" and "cave woman with blonde highlights". Ordinarily I'd just slap it into a ponytail, content to pretend that it imparts a certain athletic air ("My hair? Oh goodness no, I can't be bothered with that during triathlon season! I'm training, you know."), but suddenly I have This Thing coming up. And the ponytail is not an acceptable hairstyle for This Thing.
Here's where I go all mysterious on y'all: I can't tell you about This Thing. Yet. But I can tell you that it requires a polished-looking hairstyle, 'cuz Yeti Woman ain't invited.
So this is the deal: I have a Saturday morning appointment at my usual salon with a stylist recommended by my previous stylist, who recently moved. (I think the new stylist might be the one that I once spent an entire hair appointment surreptitiously eyeballing, trying to figure out if she's a tranny. Research proved inconclusive.) I want a cut that is (1) for medium to long length hair, (2) works for straight, fine hair textures, and (3) doesn't need such an extensive amount of upkeep that I'll be reaching for a rubber band to ponytail it within a week.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Links to photos of fabulous celebrity hairstyles? Bring 'em on!

It's an addiction of the most perverse kind: I simply cannot get enough Snakes on a Plane references.

There's a complementary story that I hope to post about later, but in the meantime, enjoy the Redneck or Yankee test.
