Happy Holidays!
We expected to be woken up early this morning, but we wouldn't have guessed that the cause would be an errant clock radio blasting news at 6 AM. Specifically, the breaking news that "JAMES BROWN IS DEAD." Immediately thereafter, the rave track of the same title became stuck on repeat play in my head.
All in all Christmas was a pretty good day here at Cheezleton Manor:
- Santa brought me a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, which means that while you won't necessarily be seeing better photographs here, you'll certainly be seeing more expensive ones.
- Turkey still tastes like wet dog to me. Why oh why do I never remember this until I actually cook one?
- I tweaked a chocolate panna cotta recipe a little bit and came up with Mocha Mint Panna Cotta. Survey says "not bad". Recipe below.

MOCHA MINT PANNA COTTA
2 packets unflavored gelatin
½ cup cold water
2 ½ cups whole milk
½ cup chocolate syrup, divided
1 Tbsp instant coffee granules
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
whipped cream
1 candy cane, crushed
In medium bowl, sprinkle gelatin over cold water; let stand.
In heavy saucepan, stir together milk, ¼ cup chocolate syrup, instant coffee, sugar and vanilla. Cook and stir until mixture just comes to a boil. Remove from heat and pour into gelatin mixture, stirring until gelatin dissolves. Divide mixture into 8 half-cup custard cups or ramekins and refrigerate at least 3 hours until gelled.
To serve, top each panna cotta with dollop of whipped cream. Drizzle with remaining chocolate syrup and sprinkle with crushed candy cane. Serves 8.
