A Little Local Flavor
When we first moved to Southern Maryland, it was visibly obvious that folks down here are a little different. I don't even need to qualify that statement by comparing them to some other population in Maryland. They're a wee bit off from the norm in the Northern part of the county, and that gap widens the further South into the county you go. On average, every fourth or fifth person you're likely to see here looks like an extra from the set of The Dukes of Hazzard.
Over time, the people have started to seem less odd to me. Could be the influx of new yuppified residents JUST LIKE US diluting the country folk population, or could be acclamation. (I'm guessing it's more of the latter, which means I'm on my way to becoming one of them. AAAAA!) Every so often, though, I'll see something that reminds that we're not in Columbia [Maryland] anymore.
This week at the grocery store, I saw a woman flossing her teeth with her tongue. It wasn't nearly as difficult a feat as it sounds, seeing as how she was conveniently missing every other tooth.
Yup, a little different down here.
