And We Survived Without Extra Milk, Bread, or Toilet Paper
The first heavy snowfall of 2006 has hit the Mid-Atlantic! When Sophie awoke this morning, I told her to look out the window. "Oh, there are a lot of trees in our yard!", she said. She's right: coated thickly with snow, the branches of our trees bend into the yard, obscuring the road and neighbors beyond. The view from the house after a snowstorm is rather pretty. (The same can't be said most of the rest of the time. Unfortunately, Cheezleton Manor did not come with a gardener. Or any other staff, for that matter.)
Sean made beignets for breakfast, his specialty. They take forever and a day to make, but they're SO good fresh from the fryer with a heavy dusting of powdered sugar. Totally worth the third-degree mouth and tongue burns.
After breakfast, we all got ready to go outside to play, including the dog. Toby was not thrilled about having to wear a little winter coat BUT I MADE HIM DO IT ANYWAY. Not so much to keep him warm - let's face it, poodles have a built-in woolly winter coat - as to amuse myself by dressing my small dog as a lumberjack. Sean loaded Sophie and Toby into the sled and spun them around the yard a few times, which was pretty much the extent of my willingness to be outside. Because, y'know, it's exhausting to stand around holding a camera out in the cold and wet. I managed to stick it out long enough to get a picture of Sean making a snowman while Sophie eats snow and the Snowbeard the Poodle eyes the carrot intended for the snowman's nose. The finished product ended up looking a lot like the snowmen from the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip.
And then, the very best part of any snow day: back inside for hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream!
