Dave Navarro has a blog. (Well OF COURSE he does.) Not only that, evidently it's a B-list blog.

The Jesus Tomato

There's this little problem I get every year as soon as the last snow melts away: the compulsion to buy quantities of plants "for the garden." History has shown that one-half or less of these plants will actually make it into the garden. The remainder roast to death in their little nursery pots. I buy more plants anyway. I cannot help myself. The flowers are so lovely, they make my credit card go DOING DOING DOING.

About a week ago we picked up two healthy-looking tomato plants and temporarily put them in our laundry room. One of the tomato plants immediately wilted upon entering the house. I have never seen such a fast, non-trauma-related death of a plant. It just shriveled up and died overnight. The other one continued to thrive.

Tonight while I was getting rid of the tomato plant corpse, I noticed the grower tag for the first time. The plant originally came from a nursey named Help From Above Farm, which uses the slogan Looking to Jesus.

"Sean!" I yelled, "We bought a JESUS TOMATO!"

Sean yelled back, "Not only that, YOU KILLED THE JESUS TOMATO!"

In my own defense, I'd like to point out that I didn't actually do anything to the plant to cause its death, other than bring it into the house. Is it a bad sign that my home is apparently highly toxic to religious vegetables? And will I go to Hell for that?

The lovely Beth of so the fish said... requested that comments be enabled here, and well, who am I to deny happiness to a pregnant lady?

They're enabled, y'all! Now go forth and comment.

Yesterday started off with a spontaneous "I love you, Mommy!" when I got Sophie out of her crib in the morning, and ended with some cuddling and more "I love you"s at bedtime. Except for when she refused to eat the dinner I made and referred to it as "fried bird poo"*, I'd say it was a perfect Mother's Day.

* And all I could think of to say was, "Where did you learn the word fried?"

The message inside my fortune cookie read, "Maybe you will go to the moon in the next century." So I was sitting there doing the obligatory eating of the cookie and grumbling to myself that in the next century I will be ONE-HUNDRED-AND-DEAD YEARS OLD, so what kind of stupid fortune is that?! when I realized that OH MY GOD. THIS COOKIE MIGHT BE INVENTORY LEFTOVER FROM THE LAST CENTURY.

There aren't enough food preservatives in the world to make me feel good about eating a six year old cookie.
